Halloween is a holiday celebrated in many English speaking countries like England, the USA
and Australia. It is celebrated on October 31st. The origins of Halloween are connected with people
whom we called Celts. They lived in Europe 2000 years ago. The Celts celebrated 1st November as
the end of the summer and they believed that one day before on 31st October dead people visited
the living ones. Since that time, people have started to dress up as ghosts so the dead would not
harm them.
Nowadays, Halloween is very popular in the whole world especially among children who
wear costumes and go from home to home saying "Trick or Treat" thus asking for candies. But it is
not only children who dress up. It is very popular even among adults who usually organize parties on
31st October. The most common costumes are: witches, vampires, werewolves and other scary
things. The most well-known Halloween symbol is jack o´ lantern which is a carved pumpkin with a
candle inside.
Halloween does not have a long tradition in Czech Republic even though there are a lot of
people who celebrate it nowadays. Most people here celebrate All Saints Day instead. All Saints Day
is celebrated on November 1st and people usually light candles and put flowers on the cemetery.

Our stay in Morávka
Our trip was for pupils from the 6th grade and we spent it in Morávka from 17th to 19th
September 2014. Our stay was great and we had a lot of fun. We had risotto for dinner when we
arrived and I enjoyed it a lot because it was delicious. The accommodations were quite comfortable.
There people shared one room͘ We woke up at 7 o´clock every day which was quite early but we
were always excited about the next day so we did not mind. We always brushed our teeth and
washed up, then we had a tasty breakfast. After our meal we had a programme prepared for us,
which was both interesting and exhausting. This is why we were looking forward to lunch because we
had a short, one hour break. Even though the programme was always great, we still enjoyed the
evening activities more because we had dinner and then we could play games together. Via this
article I would also like to thank to our teacher for participating with us͘ mong them: Mgr͘ Pyšková,
Mgr͘ Butkovová, Mgr͘ Kuča͘ Mgr͘ Šnajdrová and Mgr͘ Střížová͘ Thanks to Mgr͘ Střížová, you can now
read a short interview where she shared her impressions with us.
11: How did you like the stay?
RS: I liked it a lot. Hiking is my biggest passion.
11: What about pupils, were they good all the time?
RS: They were good most of the time.
11: How did you like the food?
RS: The food was great!
11: Would you like to return here?
RS: Yes, maybe in the future.

My Town
Our city Frýdek- Místek has population of about 58 thousand people. Frýdek- Místek
originally consisted of two cities: Místek which history dates back to the 13th century and Frýdek,
the history of which is known since 14th century. Both parts were formally united in 1955. The river
which flows through the city is called Ostravice. Despite the fact that I really like our city, I do not like
that there are a lot of business centres͘ Frýdek - Místek is a bug city and that is why it has a very well
thought out public transport system which includes trains and buses. The most important and
famous landmarks are the castle as well as the Square with the fountain of St. Florian. The castle is
from the 14th century and it was originally build in gothic style. Nowadays it is called Museum of
Beskydy. It is important to also mention that there are a lot of sport opportunities in our city. Thanks
to the surrounding landscape we can go surfing, yachting, fishing, play handball, volleyball, go
swimming or climbing and many others. The city has numerous parts and suburbs, including for
example Lískovec, Skalice, Rúžový and others͘

FRÝD -Our shopping centre
Have you already been in Frýda? It is probably the most frequently asked question not only
among the pupils but among the teachers as well. And that is also why "The Originals 11" decided to
bring you brief information about this new cultural phenomenon of our time. The building of the
shopping centre started in September 2013 and it was on November 13th 2014 that it was opened.
Of course our journalists couldn´t miss this big event as there were a lot of competitions for kids͘ The
whole shopping centre offers you about 60 shops. Among them are 14 clothes shops, 2 shoe shops,
and shops with electronics, jewellery, chemists, supermarket and many others. And if you perhaps
get tired you can have a rest in 5D cinema or you can have a coffee or snack in one of the 6
restaurant which you can find in Frýda͘ nd moreover if you get bored while drinking coffee or eating
your lunch you can enjoy free Wi-Fi in the whole complex͘ So if you haven´t been to Frýda yet we
definitely recommend you to visit it because a lot of events are going to take place there in
December. And because Christmas is coming, all of the events will be connected with Christmas. So
you can come to Frýda on 6th, 13th or 20th December to enjoy the holiday atmosphere͘ If you wish
to know more about this shopping centre see web page: www.ocfryda.cz.
See you in Frýda!

The advent has already started and we light the first candle on our advent wreaths which
means that Christmas is coming. The tradition of advent dates back to the 19th century. Since that
time people from all over the world have advent calendars with numbers from 1 to 24 on it. These
doors hide small pieces of chocolate inside the calendar. They are opened every day since the 1st of
December until Christmas.
Christmas is celebrated differently in the UK and the USA the emphasis is not placed on the
Christmas Eve, which we celebrate on 24th December, but the most
important day is Christmas Day which is celebrated on 25th December.
For children, the most important night is considered to be the one from
24th to 25th December. This night children usually hang their stockings
and they also prepare cookies and milk for Santa who is going to bring
them presents and put them under the Christmas tree. But not all
children always get presents as Santa gives presents only to those kids
who were good through the whole year. Santa keeps two lists, one is for good kids and the other is
for those who were naughty. On the Christmas Eve he puts all of the toys into his sleigh which is
pulled by his 9 reindeers: Comet, Dasher, Prancer, Vixen, Cupid, Donner and Rudolph. The best
known reindeer is Rudolph who has got red nose.
In the morning children wake up early to look through the stockings and also the presents
which are under the Christmas tree. Not only children but also adults are enjoying the presents they
got. In the evening all people have traditional Christmas dinner which usually consists of traditional
turkey and Christmas pudding. During the dinner a lot of people are watching the traditional Queen´s
Speech. Others Christmas traditions that originate in the UK include kissing under mistletoe and carol
singing. Singing carols is inseparable part of the Christmas celebrations not only in the UK and the
USA but in the whole world.
16
The singing originates in medieval times when singers were going from castle to castles
singing carols and that is also why they were called carollers. One of the Englishmen who made
Christmas carols very popular was Charles Dickens. In one of his best known works called "Christmas
Carol", he wrote about Ebenezer Scrooge, a very mean and bad man. He became a better person
after he was visited by three ghosts of Christmas. Since that time he became good and kind man. This
story is the most broadcasted TV programme every Christmas. Millions of people are watching it
during Christmas and hopefully they are aware of its massage that people should be kind and good to
each other.
CHRISTMAS COMPETITION!!! Bring us the results of the Christmas
crossword (leave it in Mrs͘ Filipcová´s office) or write us about how you
celebrated Christmas and what you found under the Christmas tree.

opportunity!!!!

Christmas fairytales written by our
journalists
"Christmas and Birthday"
Once upon a time there was one woman called Julia. She was walking through the city and
suddenly she saw Baby Jesus. She started to talk to him and she said: "Pease bring me a mobile
phone" for Christmas. After that she came home where her children had a surprise for her. Because
it was Christmas day and Julia had birthday as well, the children prepared the dinner and they also
had a present for her. When she looked under the Christmas tree she saw a present for her. It was
the mobile phone from Baby Jesus.

"Santa Claus Really Exists"
Once upon a time there was one boy called John. It was one day before Christmas and John´s
mum asked him a question: "Were you good for the whole year?" Little Johnny started to cry
because he knew he wasn´t always good͘ He then run to his room and said: "I know that Santa Claus
doesn't exist anyway"! At the same time there was a Christmas movie running on TV and Santa Claus
who was watching everybody through the TV screen said: Oh no! This boy doesn´t believe in me, I
have to give him some sign that I exist͘ That is also why Santa decided to turn everything in Johnny´s
room to ice͘ fter John´s mum came to his room she was very angry and made little Johnny tidy his
room͘ Johnny couldn´t even imagine how it
happened. After he cleaned his room he went to
his bed and fell asleep. When he woke up in the
morning he wasn´t in his room any more, he was
now in a nice room full of toys and some strange
little person was staring at him.
18
"Hi Johnny" said this creature, "Santa is already waiting for you"͘ Johnny didn´t understand what was
happening but he woke up and went to see Santa. Santa was sitting in his chair looking sternly at the
boy.
"So you don´t believe in me?" He said. "That is why now you have to make 5000 toys as a
punishment. You can´t go home until you have finished your task." Johnny said: "But tomorrow is
Christmas and I can´t finish until tomorrow!" "But you have to" said Santa and then disappeared.
Johnny was making the toys the whole night but he made only a few toys.
He started to cry because he already knew he wouldn´t be home for Christmas. But suddenly
he woke up; he was at home in his bed and it was Christmas morning. He went to the living room and
under the Christmas tree there were a lot of presents. He wrapped all of his presents. He was very
surprised when he found out that these presents were the presents that he made last night. He got
new bike, play station, dog and many other things. He was very happy and he said: "Santa, now I
believe in you!" At the same time Santa Claus on the North Pole was very happy and he said: "Merry
Christmas Johnny, Merry Christmas to you!"

Dogs, human´s best friends
Hundred kinds of dogs:
It's said that all of the dogs come from the wolf.
But it's also said that a puppy is the cutest pet in the world. Dogs can be found all over the world and
they have long or short fur. There are many dog breeds, for example the most popular dog breeds in
America are Dobermans, in England it´s Cocker Spaniel and in Africa it´s Rhodesian Ridgeback .
Dog´s history:
All dog breeds have a different history. I have a dog (Rhodesian ridgeback) this dog breed used to kill
lions in Africa. American Boxer was originally a military dog breed which was trained to be in the
army and help humans... Every dog has its history but they all love humans, they are our real friends
Dogs are our best friends!!!
